Science, technologies and information society

Scientific - research activity constitutes research which contributes to the development of scientific thought and raises the scientific level in all areas and fields of science, contributes to the international transfer of knowledge, technologies and skills for the overall development of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Innovation is еspecially important to improvements in living standards and can affect individuals, institutions, entire economic sectors, and countries in multiple ways. The appropriate measurement of innovation and the use of innovation data in research can help policy makers to better understand economic and social changes, assess the contribution (positive or negative) of innovation to social and economic goals, and monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of their policies.

Information society is a society based on the efficient usage of information enabled by the accelerated development and the increasing usage of the information and communication technology (ICT). The progress and penetration of the information and communication technology in all segments of the society has a great influence on its economic and social changes. Global communications, e-trade and the Internet provide the developed world with numerous benefits, greater development, economic expansion and democracy.

In the Republic of North Macedonia certain indicators are measured and monitored, such as: equipment with certain ICT (e.g. computers, access and type of the Internet connection), level and purpose of ICT usage.

The measurement of the degree of development of the Information Society through monitoring certain core indicators is a process of continuous revision and improvement.
