Foreign Affiliates Statistics, 2022

In 2022, 2.6% of domestic enterprises in the business sector were foreign controlled

In 2022, 1 727 or 2.6% of the enterprises in the business sector1) were foreign branches – domestic enterprises controlled by foreigners.

Foreign branches engage 20.9% of total employed and create 32.9% of total gross value added.

The largest contribution to the added value was made by Manufacturing industry with37.2%, Information and communications with 16.9% and Wholesale and retail trade and vehicle repair with 13.3%.

Foreign affiliates were controlled, mainly by European countries i.e. 80.7%, EU member countries control 57.6% of foreign affiliates, in which 66.7% of employees were engaged and participated with 65.1% in the added value.

The most economically important foreign affiliates were controlled by Austria with a share in the added value of 16.6%, followed by Netherlands with 12.0%, the United Kingdom with 10.6% and Germany with 9.6%.
