The number of live births in urban areas was 10 171, which represents 60.8% of the total number of live births, in comparison with 6 566 live births or 39.2% in rural areas. By regions, Skopje had the highest share of total live births, 40.3%, while the East Region had the lowest share, 5.8%.
The number of deaths in urban areas was 12 724, which represents 63.0% of the total numbers of deaths, in comparison with 7 463 or 37.0% in rural areas. By regions, Skopje had the largest share of the total number of deaths, 30.4%, while the Northeast Region had the smallest share, 8.0%. There were 17 infant deaths in urban areas and 13 in rural areas.
The natural increase was negative, -2 553 persons in urban areas and -897 persons in rural areas.
The number of marriages in urban areas was 6 986 or 55.1%, against 5 686 marriages or 44.9% in rural areas. The number of divorces in urban areas was 1 090 or 61.8%, while in rural areas there were 675 divorces or 38.2% of the total number of divorces.
The data on internal migration (in the same region) show that the dominant form of migration was from rural to urban areas with 42.8%. Rural-urban migration was highest in the Southwest Region with 44%. Inter-rural migration was highest in the Polog Region with 53.4%, whereas inter-urban migration accounted for 1.8%. The external net migration was highest in the Skopje Region, 1 508, while lowest in the Southwest Region, - 403.
