In 2023, the number of live births decreased by 7.4% compared to 2022

In 2023 there were 16 859 births of which 16 737 live births and 122 stillbirths.

In 2023, compared to the previous year, the number of live births decreased by 7.4%. The structure of live births by sex was dominated by males with 50.9%, which means there were 103.6 males per 100 females.

By month, most (1558) live births were born in August: 1558.

According to the mothers age, most, (33.0%) were live births to mothers at age 25-29.

The mean age of mothers for all live births was 29.6 years, while the mean age of mothers at first births was 28.1 years.

Children were most frequently born to mothers from the 1994 birth cohorts. 

In 2023 there were 14 live births registered to mothers aged under 15.

The number of live births outside marriage in 2023 was 2 056, which represents 12.3% of the total number of live births.
