Laeken poverty indicators in 2021

In 2021 the households of two adults with three or more dependent children had the highest risk of poverty

Based on the Survey on Income and Living Conditions, which is carried out in accordance with European Union recommendations, the State Statistical Office calculated Laeken poverty indicators for 2021. The source for poverty calculations is incomes, and the poverty threshold is defined at 60% of median equivalised income 

In 2021, the at-risk-of-poverty rate in the Republic of North Macedonia was 23.0%.  

Analyzed by household types, the at-risk-of-poverty rate in households of two adults with two dependent children in 2021 was 26.4%. According to the most frequent activity status, the at-risk-of-poverty rate for employed persons was 8.9%, while for the pensioners it was 8.1%. The Gini coefficient (measure of income distribution inequality) was 30.3%.

* The assessment of poverty data for 2021 was based on the data from the Census of Population, Households and Dwellings, 2021. A revision of the data for the Laeken Poverty Indicators for previous years is currently underway, based on the data from the Census of Population, 2021.
