Reaction of the State Statistical Office due to misinterpretation of statistical data
SSO reaction: Data on the increase in vegetable prices have not been interpreted correctly
Regarding the article published on Telma television on 15.07.2025, under the title "Vegetables became 46 percent more expensive in one year, Mickoski met with Durmishi, no decision on measures", available at the following link: link to the article, the State Statistical Office is reacting to the inappropriate interpretation of statistical data.
In the article, the data are presented in a way that gives the impression that they refer to consumer prices, even though these are data that show the price indices of agricultural products – output, with a base year of 2020=100.
In this regard, we would like to point out once again that the output indices in agriculture cover production from the Agricultural sector, which is purchased or sold outside the sector, i.e. they are purchase prices, not retail prices. Additionally, it should be noted that the data are presented with a base year of 2020=100.
Data on output price indices in agriculture, by month, are available in the MAKSTAT database at the following link:
🔗 Price indices of output in agriculture
Data on consumer price indices by the COICOP classification, which are used to monitor inflation, are also available in the MAKSTAT database at the following link:
🔗 Consumer Price Index by COICOP
These data show that consumer prices in the Vegetables subgroup in June 2025, compared to the same month of the previous year, increased by 9.66%.
We ask the media and the public to take this reaction into account, in order for the statistical data to be interpreted properly and accurately when presenting them.
