Foreign Affiliates Statistics, 2024

In 2024, 4.7% of domestic enterprises in the business sector were foreign-controlled

In 2024, 3 2801) or 4.7% of the enterprises in the business sector2) were foreign affiliates – domestic enterprises controlled by foreign enterprises.

Foreign affiliates engaged 24.2% of the total number of employees and created 37.0% of the total gross value added.

The largest contribution to the value added of foreign-controlled enterprises was made by Manufacturing with 35.3%, Information and communication with 16.7% and Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with 11.5%.

Foreign affiliates were controlled mainly by European countries, i.e. 92.8%, EU member states controlled 44.6% of foreign affiliates, which engaged 62.8% of the employees and generated 61.9% of the value added of foreign-controlled enterprises.

The most economically important foreign affiliates were controlled by Austria, with a 17.4% share in the value added of foreign-controlled enterprises, followed by Netherlands with 11.0%, Germany with 9.7% and the United Kingdom with 9.0%.
