35 years of independent Macedonia – a story told through numbers
To mark 35 years of the country’s independence, the State Statistical Office has prepared the publication “35 years of independent Macedonia”, which presents the development and changes in the country over the past three and a half decades through a carefully selected set of statistical indicators.
Thirty-five years of independence are more than just an anniversary. They are the story of a country, its people, the changes that society has undergone, and the journey we have travelled together. And numbers are among the most reliable witnesses to that journey.
Through data on population, education, the labour market, the economy, agriculture, industry, the environment, tourism, the information society, and many other areas, the publication creates a statistical portrait of independent Macedonia – from the first years of independence to the present day.
A distinctive feature of the publication is its visual identity, inspired by traditional Macedonian embroidery.
Traditional embroidery was chosen not merely as a decorative element. Its threads symbolically connect the past and the present, tradition and modernity, the heritage we carry with us and the changes we create. Just as countless threads, carefully woven together, create a single whole, thousands of statistical data points come together to create a picture of a society.
This publication is not merely a collection of tables, charts, and indicators. It is a chronicle of 35 years of independence, told in the language of statistics.
Behind every piece of data lies a part of our everyday lives. Behind every statistic are people.
35 years. Thousands of numbers. One story.
