European statistical institutions exchanged experiences and good practices to promote trust in official statistics

At the invitation of the Director-General of Eurostat, Mariana Kotzeva, the Director of the State Statistical Office, Dr. Dejan Stankov, attended a conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the European Statistical Code of Practice. The event, organized by Eurostat, was held on 6 and 7 November 2025 at the headquarters of the European Commission - "Berlaymont" in Brussels, Belgium.

Representatives of the national statistical services of the European Statistical System attended the conference, as well as experts from the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Presidency of the Council of the European Union and other relevant institutions and users of official statistical data.

The event was an opportunity to exchange experiences and insights on the impact of the Code on the development of European statistics, as well as on the achievements in the past two decades since its establishment.
Within the framework of the conference, Dr. Stankov held meetings and discussions with representatives of statistical institutions from the European Union member states, during which experiences related to the promotion of professional independence and strengthening of trust in official statistics were shared.

The European Statistical Code of Practice consists of 16 principles and 84 indicators, which establish the standards for the development, production and dissemination of European statistics. The principles cover the institutional framework, statistical processes and results, and all national statistical authorities that prepare European statistics are obliged to respect and apply these standards.
