Household energy consumption, 2024
Firewood remains the most widely used energy source for heating, while among electric appliances, inverter air conditioners and heat pumps stand out as more efficient technologies for heating and auxiliary heating
According to data from the Household Energy Consumption Survey, in 2024 the average dwelling size is 91.93 m², the average heated area is 49.99 m², while the average household size is 3.04 persons.
In the structure of energy sources used for heating, firewood has the largest share, including firewood, wood from fruit plantations, and wood residues presented as one category, with 38.2%. Electricity accounts for a significant share of 24.6%, while households using two or more energy carriers as their primary type account for 18.6%. District heating accounts for 10.8%, while pellets and other energy sources have a smaller share.
The data show that, among electrical heating and supplementary heating devices, households are increasingly oriented towards inverter air conditioners, which in 2024 are the most widely used, with 277 115 units.
The survey shows an increased use of dishwashers, tumble dryers, and microwave ovens, and at the same time, the use of single-door refrigerators and separate deep freezers decreased.
The data also show an increase in the use of solar energy. In 2024, 91 545 households have installed solar collectors, with a total installed area of 227 686 m².
In the area of energy poverty, 10.6% of households reported that they always experience financial difficulties in paying electricity bills or purchasing heating energy sources, while 40.0% reported that they never experienced such difficulties.
