The natural increase is negative both in urban and in rural areas
The number of live births in urban areas was 9 535, which represents 60.2% of the total number of live births, in comparison with 6 315 live births or 39.8% in rural areas. By regions, Skopje had the highest share of total live births, 41.6%, while the East Region had the lowest share, 6.1%.
The number of deaths in urban areas was 12 902, which represents 63.6% of the total number of deaths, in comparison with 7 385 or 36.4% in rural areas. By regions, Skopje had the largest share of the total number of deaths, 30.4%, while the Northeast Region had the smallest share, 8.0%. There were 37 infant deaths in urban areas and 25 in rural areas.
The natural increase was negative, -3 367 persons in urban areas and -1 070 persons in rural areas.
The number of marriages in urban areas was 5 782 or 55.0%, against 4 725 marriages or 45.0% in rural areas. The number of divorces in urban areas was 1 438 or 65.8%, while in rural areas there were 747 divorces or 34.2% of the total number of divorces.
The data on internal migration (in the same region) show that the dominant form of migration was from rural to urban areas with 34.9%. Rural-urban migration was highest in the NortheastRegion with 47.4%. Inter-rural migration was highest in the Polog Region with 50.9%, whereas inter-urban migration accounted for 2.7%. The external net migration was highest in the Skopje Region, 3 877, while lowest in the Northeast Region, 40.
