Educational support from the State Statistical Office for our Olympians at the upcoming International Economics Olympiad
By analyzing the key economic indicators in a presentation, the SSO contributed to the preparation of students for the International Economics Olympiad
In order to increase the statistical literacy among young people and strengthen the connection between statistics and science, on 01.07.2025, the State Statistical Office is organizing an educational training for students who will represent the Republic of North Macedonia at the upcoming International Economics Olympiad at its Training Center.
The presentation on the topic "Basic economic indicators with special emphasis on the Gini coefficient" was held by the Director of the SSO, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dejan Stankov, in order to offer students a deeper understanding of:
- the concept of GDP and GNP and their correct interpretation,
- income inequality shown through the Gini coefficient and other relevant indicators with a review of their strengths and weaknesses,
- ways of measuring relative poverty,
- inflation measured through the consumer price index,
- basic indicators of the economic activity of the population,
- types of time series indices, etc.
This activity represents a concrete contribution of the Institute for supporting young talents and their preparation for world scientific competitions, as well as in the spread of statistical culture in society.
