Official statistics as a key element in strengthening gender equality
Data as a basis for accountability and evidence-based public policies
On 12 December 2025, the Director of the State Statistical Office participated in a panel discussion organized by UN Women – Skopje, dedicated to strengthening national mechanisms for gender equality through policies, resources, accountability and inclusiveness.
In his address, the Director emphasized that promoting gender equality requires an integrated and sustainable approach, based on a strong legal and strategic framework, adequate institutional capacities and clear mechanisms for monitoring the effects of policies. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of official statistics as an independent and credible source of quality, timely and gender-disaggregated data.
It was highlighted that official statistics enable the measurement of real progress through clearly defined gender indicators and are the foundation of accountability and transparency. In this regard, the director underlined the need for further development of gender statistics by strengthening administrative data sources, their digitalization and harmonization with European Union standards.
