The State Statistical Office Participated in a Meeting of the Statistical Cooperation Group in Chisinau

A delegation from the State Statistical Office (SSO), led by Director Ph.D Dejan Stankov, participated in the annual meeting of the Policy  Group on Statistical Cooperation (PGSC). Held on September 22 and 23 in Chisinau, Moldova, the event was organized by Eurostat and hosted by the National Bureau of Statistics of Moldova.

Representatives from Eurostat, the European Commission, and national statistical institutes from enlargement countries participated in the two-day meeting to discuss strategic priorities and development within the European Statistical System (ESS).

Eurostat Director-General, Ms. Mariana Kotzeva, also attended the meeting and supported the discussions on the agenda. The agenda focuses on a wide range of topics crucial for the further alignment of enlargement countries with EU statistical legislation, including: the development and role of statistics in the EU enlargement process and the European Statistical System (ESS); progress and challenges regarding the availability, production, and dissemination of statistical data; the latest developments and national plans of enlargement countries for aligning with EU statistical requirements; priorities for enlargement countries for the 2028–2034 period; recent experiences from peer reviews; and the use of artificial intelligence in statistics, among others.

The participation of the State Statistical Office (SSO) delegation in this meeting reaffirmed the Office's strong commitment to the European integration process—through the alignment of the statistical system with EU standards—and its active contribution to the dialogue on the future of statistical cooperation.

The SSO presented recent key developments within the National Statistical System, as well as priorities related to EU accession. The presentation on the SSO's use of artificial intelligence generated particular interest.
